Girding the Loins of the Mind

Today we would worship Thee in the beauty of holiness. Give us; we pray Thee, the Spirit of truth, that we may be enabled to receive the truth in the love of it. Give us hearts to recognize and adore Him Who is the Truth, and apart from Whom no man can know the truth.

Vouchsafe unto us, O Lord, humble spirits, and repentant hearts; make us to know how grievous is our sin, how great is our indebtedness, and therefore how impossible it is for anyone of us to obtain salvation by works of righteousness, which we may do.

O satisfy us early with Thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Let Thy work appear unto Thy servants, and Thy glory unto their children. And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us; and establish Thou the work of our hands upon us, yea, the work or our hands establish Thou it. Thou hast made us, and not we ourselves. Such powers as we have are Thine; such potentialities as belong to us are material for God to use. Enable us to grow up into Christ in all things. While our affections are centered upon heavenly things, give us grace to walk the common earth. While we endeavour to think Thy thoughts after Thee, enable us, by the grace of Thy Holy Spirit, and through the merit of the cleansing blood, to transmute the truth Thou dost communicate, into character and conduct. Help us to put off the old man, and to put on the new, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Save us from mental feebleness. Preserve us from fads and vagaries. Make us spiritually sane. Enable us to gird up the loins of our minds, to be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto us by the revelation of Jesus Christ. So lead us all in the path of the just, which shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

This we ask in the name of our great High Priest. Amen.
