This sermon, as the heading indicates, was a beautiful tribute to one of his predecessors in the ministry of Jarvis Street Baptist Church. Nevertheless, we may safely conclude from this and references he makes to his father elsewhere, who was also a minister, that this was in many respects his model for ministry.

The sympathetic reader will also note the tenderness and compassion indicated here, showing a man of delicate feelings.
